Day One

I'm going to put together a whole background story over the next few days, but I wanted to get the basics up here in the meantime. I've been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember (more about that in the background story). I was managing it okay for a little while with a fairly active job, but about a year ago I switched to a desk job and gained about 20 pounds. Due to various magazine articles, etc. I've read recently, it suddenly hit me that it's not just about how I look or feel about myself. It's about health. I have a family history of obesity and diabetes and I really want to avoid that. I know it will only get harder as I get older, so now is the time to make changes. I started this diary to keep me accountable.
